Games starting with 1.e4 e5 are called open games. The centre pawns face each other, the pieces develop quickly and play is usually lively.
The two most classical openings: in the Italian Game the bishop goes to c4 and aims at f7; in the Ruy Lopez (Spanish) the bishop goes to b5 and pressures the knight defending e5. Play one of them.
In the Italian Game White often tries to take the whole centre with c3 and d4. Black aims to develop quickly and fight back in the centre.
