In the middlegame you hide your king, but when pieces come off, the king becomes a strong fighter. The first job in the endgame is to bring your king to the centre.
White wins if the king gets in front of the pawn. Bring your king in front of the pawn, facing the enemy king.
Rule: in pawn endgames, try to put your king in front of your pawn. If your king stays behind the pawn, it is usually a draw.
