What's in this lesson?
Learns how the pawn advances and captures diagonally.
A pawn only moves forward, normally one square at a time. It can never go back.
But on its first move it may advance two squares at once. Push the e-pawn two squares.
A pawn moves straight but captures diagonally: it can take an enemy piece standing one square diagonally in front of it. Capture one of the black pawns.
A blocked pawn cannot advance. A pawn cannot capture the piece straight in front of it.
A pawn is worth one point, but a pawn that reaches the last rank can turn into another piece. This is called promotion; we'll see it in later lessons.
