5 steps · 2 exercises
What's in this lesson?
Learns to capture the right piece by counting values.
- Let's recall the rough values of the pieces: pawn one, knight three, bishop three, rook five, queen nine.
- Your pawn can capture two pieces. Which one is more profitable? Take the valuable one.
- Think twice before taking a protected piece. If the queen takes the pawn on d5, the pawn on c6 takes the queen: you lose nine points for one pawn.
- Now find and capture the unprotected piece. Careful: one of the pieces is protected.
- In every exchange, look at the total value: the piece you give should not be worth more than the one you take.
